Milan Fashion Week 2011: Versace Spring/Summer 2012

Perhaps London based designer Holly Fulton could foresee Donatella Versace’s mindset for her spring/summer 2012 collection for Versace when she showed at London Fashion Week, thus also sharing the same aquatic theme for her show; but whatever the prevision was, it wasn’t half as big as what Versace had in store, or had brought to the catwalk in Milan.
Milan Fashion Week 2011: Versace Spring/Summer 2012
Harking back to Gianni Versace’s heyday, this was the design house at its best.

As well as the reoccurring maritime theme Versace also showed classic edgy pieces such as monochrome leather studded skirts, biker jackets and bra style tops which were also punked up in neon yellow and lime green shades.

Skirts were covered with extra chiffon layers which resembled a soft floating fin in the ocean as the models sashayed along with a selection of jackets, dresses, tops and skirts all embellished with crystal-like pieces.

For the finale Versace showed an array of floor length dresses, all equally bespoke and ranging from studded bodices which led into tiny crystallized skirts and onto Grecian inspired gowns that were split between top and skirt with only a diamante starfish to hold them together.

Hair and make-up was kept extremely chic and groomed with strong brows and cream eye shadow – perhaps to resemble a glint of the ocean in the models eyes. Whatever your interpretation of this collection, it is clear that Versace has put her all into bringing the mainline collection to the forefront of fashion once again…
